Nice comedy about the behind-the-scenes work
5 July 2023
As another reviewer pointed out, this movie has a cast full of many great names but it's very underrated (so far only 1799 ratings). Last March I finally saw it and I really liked it.

It begins with Les (Holt McCallany) that wants to shoot a movie in the town where he grew up, in Brooklyn. After just a few minutes he is told that everyone is on the search for Jimmy Hoyt named One-Eye because of his glass eye. As their search for One-eye Jimmy continues they meet lots of quirky characters: Jimmy's brother (Steve Buscemi) who is not very interested in finding him; disco-dance obsessed Disco Bean (John Turturro) that dances for telling the story of how Jimmy lost his eye; homeless Vietnam War veteran Colonel Ron (Samuel L Jackson) that spends days catching fish; Lefty and Junior who always fight because they steal each other's car. After various disadventures Jimmy's mother throws a party with all the bizarre characters we encountered and, magic, Jimmy returns home after the party. Where Jimmy was all that time? He was trapped in the superintendent's apartment's basement for five days and survived eating cat food! Les is baffled but as the movie is about to end, he and his two friends own the rights for their unique story and their story is pitched to a Hollywood executive for a movie.

While the plot might sound boring it isn't because there are so many funny characters played by various great actors that give entertaining performances in their well respected resumes. And the ending, while predictable, it was very uplifting. Not to be missed if you are a fan of some of the cast members or of 1990s movies.
