Excellent Character Actors

I liked this episode for a very esoteric reason. No, not the dog. Or Max. No, it was great to see John Colenback as dog food ad executive Ken Davern. Unfortunately, it was quickly apparent his character was not long for this world. But speaking of "the world," I used to love watching him on "As the World Turns." Soap operas were noted for their wacky plot twists, but I still remember one I've never seen, before or since. His character, Dr. Dan Stewart, went through so many travails to finally marry his beloved Elizabeth. Then she promptly died when she fell UP the stairs!

As for the others on the show, I always enjoyed whenever they had on Lee Wilkof as the nerdy scientist Stanley Friesen. Granted, "Hart to Hart" is pretty much a comedy anyway, but he still managed to provide "comedy relief" in his every appearance. And of course the ubiquitous Kenneth Mars is famous for his nutty characters, most notably in Mel Brooks films, and his Dr. Cobb is another excellent performance. Perhaps my favorite character of his was in the guise of William W. D. 'Bud' Prize, appearing with 2 other marvelous comedians, Martin Mull & Fred Willard, on "Fernwood Tonight." If you want to see some really superb comedy, try tracking down "Fernwood Tonight"!
