The saddest, scariest film I have ever seen.
22 July 2023
Saw this when first aired. Scary stuff.

A no-nonsense hard look at the effects of a nuclear Armageddon.

Set in Sheffield, the film shows us everyday life playing out with the television and radio news in the background. No one is really paying attention to what the presenters are saying, but we, the audience, can hear that tensions are rising as Russia and the US bark at each other in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

We then get the government service messages, telling people how to prepare in the event of "Air Attacks", but firmly saying that this is just a precaution and not to panic.

The programme pulls no punches as it plays through the horror of the attack and its aftermath, not just the immediate, but at least a decade or so after.

It is the saddest, scariest film I have ever seen. No sentimentality, no gloss; it is bare bones reality.
