Well, I'll give this movie a decent score despite the fact that like a lot of foreign movies they seem to want to separate themselves from the Hollywood fare. Honestly, if they want to separate themselves it is quite easy by simply writing a film that is not a Hollywood film. I'm sure that isn't all that hard. Anyway, I believe this is a Spanish-Romanian collaboration - I think, but I'm not really sure because it was listed as being a Romanian film.

It is about this detective that arrives at the Canary Islands to learn what is known as the Whistling Language. This is a language where you speak using whistles. Not only does it become a coded message, but it is also a means of sending messages long distances without needing to use an electronic device. This is important because one thing about this film is that the characters are basically being watched all the time.

In a way the film is quite complicated, and it is made more so because the chapters aren't in chronological order. Personally, I found that it made the film somewhat hard to follow, but it isn't as if other movies that use that technique have been just as difficult, it just means that one generally needs to watch them multiple times to actually understand what is happening. However, the thing is that Cristi, the protagonist, seems to be playing dual roles, and whatever he does, and where-ever he goes, he seems to be under surveillance, if not by the police, by the crooks.

It is a complicated film, but it seems in part to be attempting to lure the gang out into the open. However, it also seems that it deals with corruption that occurs within the police department, but when you hear how much they actually get paid, it certainly does make you understand why they end up being on the take. There are some amusing aspects to the film as well, such as the money that was donated to the church quite by accident, and of course the church isn't all that willing to give it back.

I can't say that it is one of the greatest films out there, but I have to admit that it still wasn't bad.
