Jason Kelly's (Zac Efron) grandma is dead. He's going to her funeral with his fiance Meredith (Julianne Hough), both lawyers. There he meets his grandpa Dick Kelly (Robert De Niro), who to Jason's big surprise want him to drive them to grandpa's place in Miami, for some needed relaxation now that his 40 year marriage has ended. The problem is that Jason is gonna wed Meredith in little more than a week. But Dick has made up his mind, and Jason agrees with the permission of Meredith, he just needs to be back for wedding rehearsal and other wedding preparations.
On their way they meet three friends, two college girls Shadia (Zoey Deutch), a photographer and Lenore (Aubrey Plaza) the third being the gay, Bradley (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman). They're on Spring Break, on the way to Daytona to party. Lenore has a taste for elder men and she tells that she wants to sleep with Dick. It takes Dick some persuasion, but Jason okays the trip not to Miami but to Daytona to join the party.
And what a party! It involves the police and a helping hand from local drug dealer Tam Pan (Jason Mantzoukas). Dick also takes Jason to visit his old army buddy Stinky (Danny Glover), for a very, very short visit.
It soon becomes clear that Jason finds interest in Shadia, and, well, the same thing happens between Dick and Lenore. This is not all, the shenanigans continues.
It's a fantastic cast for this kind of film, and it probably wouldn't have turned out so OK that it really does. It seems that the leads really enjoy playing this kind of goofy comedy. Even Dermot Mulroney has a part as Dick's son and therefore Jason's father. An okay film for a rainy day.
