Irene von Helldorf (Gloria Stuart) is celebrating her 21st birthday with her father Robert (Lionel Atwill). They are dinning at the family mansion with her three suitors; Captain Walter Brink (Paul Lukas), Frank Faber and Thomas Brandt. Tommy proposes to her, but she slyly puts it aside. He challenges the other two to stay one night in the Blue Room with its history of mysterious deaths.
It's too bad that it's a black and white movie. We need to see the Blue Room in blue. I like the premise although I want the horror a little sooner. It's not really a horror in the modern sense. It's a mystery thriller with few thrills. It's mostly talking. I do like the actors and the sets. I can definitely see a modern remake with supernatural horror.
