not good enough
21 August 2023
Jane (Susan Saint James), Elaine (Jane Curtin), and Louise (Jessica Lange) are suburban housewives and best friends since high school. They are all struggling with money and inflation. Each one has her own personal issues and they keep getting worst. There is a cash giveaway at the mall and the ladies have a plan for a caper.

These are three amazing ladies and they have some great co-stars. I've never heard of this film but I have to check this out. There is a reason why this movie has been forgotten. It's not that good and it's not bad enough to be noticed. First, making inflation the big comedic concept is not fun. It's Mad Libs style of comedy writing. It's like a challenge to make something dull funny. All the money talk becomes mind numbing. It's more sad and bitter. Jane Curtin has some semi-fun attempts at comedy. She's literally taking the clothes off her back. It's a little desperate but I appreciate it. I hope that this contributed to the Kate & Allie TV show. I like that show.

The big ball scheme has potential, but the first sight of it should be packed with money. The ladies should all be staring at it and have an unison eureka moment. It's over thirty minutes when Jane has that moment with an empty ball. It's not good enough. They need to set up the money troubles and transition into the caper quicker. The caper has more potential. It's possibly the most fun part of the movie, but it's too short. This is not good enough.
