10/10
A daring drama that is way ahead of its time and gets a big thumbs up from me.

While there were a few films made before this that dealt with racial issues in an intelligent and sensitive manner and films about aboriginals later on that have become classics ("Walkabout" being the most famous), I found this to be a brilliant look at another marginalized group and the prejudices that they face and an expose on the injustices of taking someone's land away.

The Australian government has sold a piece of property with a fresh spring to a family who moves there, and they deal with the native indigenous people who have justified claim on it. This leads to murder, cover ups and retaliation, with some pretty shocking dialog concerning open racism and the conflicts that are created because a few of the white men come to see the wrongs being done. Tommy Trinder, Chips Rafferty and Gordon Jackson are excellent in the leads, and the film is beautifully made. Definitely thought provoking and profound and very important.
