Just another Canadian story perverted by Hollywood (like Argo) to make it more entertaining, like most biopics these days

Warning: Spoilers
The movie itself is alright, actors are great. But the story doesn't align with reality. Which is an unfortunate occurance in biopics, gotta alter things to make it more palatable for the masses. Just tell the full true story, even if it makes the "good guy" look bad.

The situation was simple. GMO Seed blew into his fields from a neighbours field. Percy found it while killing pest plants around the edges of those fields. Instead of destroying those GMO plants, like he was supposed to do. He killed his entire field to find the other plants. Then he brought the surviving GMO crops to seed, which was illegal, harvested the seed, illegal, then resowed all his fields a following season, with that seed, also illegal. He did this all knowing what he was doing was theft.

It's a simple story of theft, and the thief (Percy) getting caught. He wasn't a hero. Percy didn't do anything by accident, it was all intentional. It was big news in Canada with lots of people supporting Percy until the truth got out, what he actually did.

If I design something, and the blueprints are blown out my window by the wind. Just because you find those blueprints, doesn't give you the right to steal my design and use it as your own. That's what happened.

Percy lost the lawsuit that Monsanto brought against him.

Later, a similar incident happened, but he destroyed the plants that time. Billed Monsanto, which they refused, took them to court, and won ($660).
