Foundation: Long Ago, Not Far Away (2023)
Season 2, Episode 9
9/10
Surprising, stunning and brilliantly played out.

Warning: Spoilers
This marks the penultimate episode of season 2, but it's a whopper.

Short of some sort of deus ex machina explanation that reverses events at the end of this episode, there's no turning back. Yes, it's wildly deviated from the books on specific plot ploints, but I think anyone under any illusion that this was a 1:1 adaptation will have had that dispelled long ago already.

This has the potential to be the Foundation's Red Wedding.

It makes Poly, and Bel Rio's lover's characters all the more tragic.

Constance, Hober Mallow witnessing something truly horrifying, while Bel RIos forced to issue a command that he desperately, for personal reasons, was utterly torn apart by. This will have consequences later down the line, no doubt.

Each of the different strands of this story are coming together, with a highly anticipated finale next week. The inevitable long wait to season 3 will be painful to say the least.

Sorry if you are just so hung up that this isn't exactly how things play out in the books - but here's the thing - this is not the books. The showrunners are using inspiration, events, characters and general direction from the books to weave together a new and modernised story that is fresh, and totally engrossing in it's own way.

It plays to the strengths of the medium it's made for, rather than trying to faithfully represent the books 1:1.
