All About Christmas Eve (2012 TV Movie)
7/10
Fun, pretty good rom-com

I liked this movie, apparently better than some IMDb reviewers. Of course, it was kind of a ripoff of the 90's film "Sliding Doors", where you see two versions of a woman's life, based on whether or not she made it to her mode of transportation on time. They even included her catching her scummy, cheating boyfriend with another girl. But copies of other movies can still be enjoyable.

Okay, this movie is no "Sliding Doors". And Haylie Duff is no Gwyneth Paltrow. But I liked her performance as the main character Eve. She was warm, engaging and likable. She did a great job of portraying sad and depressed in her one reality and happy and fun in her other. Chris Carmack also did a good job portraying Aidan, the unpretentious, grown-up-kid CEO of a tech company. I thought Eve and Aidan had great chemistry together, and I enjoyed their easy banter. The scene where they were asking each other what they were wearing was a bit tasteless and stupid, but otherwise, I enjoyed their interactions with each other.

I wasn't a fan of some of the supporting characters, who seemed a bit over-the-top and one-dimensional. Eve's boyfriend Darren was especially bad. It was really unbelievable that a beautiful, successful woman like Eve was ever seriously considering marrying a slacker, video-game-playing man-boy like that, especially since he was clearly sponging off her, living rent-free in her apartment. Her boss Elizabeth was also pretty much a caricature. No boss would be that mean and nasty, or if they were, no employee like Eve would be so adamant about continuing to work for such a toxic person.

I liked the interesting twist at the end, where the alternate reality in LA turned out to be just a "what might have been" dream. I didn't necessarily think that the "real" reality that she ended up with was the better one, though, even though she ended up pursuing her dream. I hate how, in these movies, "pursuing your dream" invariably means pursuing a pie-in-the-sky career in the arts, which 99.9% of aspirants will never be able to make a living at. She had a successful career as an event planner, a job she was good at and that she enjoyed. What's so wrong with that being her ultimate dream life, rather than being a starving artist working part-time as a bartender? I did like how she was still able to re-connect with Aiden in her "real" reality, though.

So, all in all, this was an entertaining movie, with likable, relatable characters and a feel-good plot. Definitely worth watching.
