Like many kids of my era, I hero worshipped Evil Knievel. I had a comic book based on him and this toy motorcycle set that you reved up. I heard if you had one of those today it would be worth some money. Yes this man was crazy in the head but he appealed to the dark side of all of us. Do daredevils like him have a subconscious death wish or do they just like to live life on the edge who knows? Anyhow this special was made at the time Jaws was a big hit and everyone was scared of sharks. Someone came up with the idea to have him jump over a shark tank but in the rehearsal he crashed and broke several bones so poor Telly Savalas and Jill Saint John had to improvise and keep giving reports on his condition. This live special was really a disaster! By the way it turned out later that the sharks used in the stunt had been tranquilized and they were sharks that didn't attack people. Evel might has well have been jumping over a tank of goldfish!
