This is a character development episode not just for Jim, but for the relationship between Blackbeard and The Gentleman Pirate. You really begin to see what each "Captain" is willing to do for the other because the amount of respect they have for each other, and also, the amount of fascination they have with each other's lives. It's an interesting dynamic.
And Jim is a cool character, don't get me wrong. But when everybody starts referring to Jim as a "they," it's sickening. It's already been established that Jim is female. Nothing wrong with that, but the show takes it several steps further to bow to the whims of the loud and obnoxious modern minority of social gender dysphoria by insulting the female audience that Jim really isn't a "woman," but some muddled version of one.
Really? You're gonna pull this move? Give me a break. The show was so enjoyable, but then this one introduced modern social politics, corrupt politics at that, and it just ruined it.
The show suddenly got so good after episode 2 that it's possible to overlook it and try to enjoy the rest, as long as the viewer isn't constantly reminded of how "woke" the show can be. By stealing Jim's femininity, the show actually does more damage than good for the female viewers. It's like saying that it's not good enough to be "just a woman," and that you can't have a badass pirate who's just a straight character who is definitively female. What a joke.
