4/10
gave me a headache
21 October 2023
The acting in this film is superb; it's very much so dialog-driven. There's a lot of fast talking, talking over one-another, concentrating on what others are saying while simultaneously talking on the phone (or pretending to). The script must have been a massive page turner, because this film moves fast. If you like dialog-driven films, movies about Journalism, Howard Hawks' films, and/or if you're a Cary Grant fan, then you should watch this.

The story revolves around a woman that is looking to get out of the business; she doesn't want to be a reporter anymore. Her X (played by Cary Grant) still likes her, so he's not only trying to get her to NOT remarry, but is trying to keep her from walking out the door.

This film does work on many levels. I get why people like it so much.

The biggest problem I have with the film is that I didn't much care about the subject matter. Plus, there was so much noise and commotion that I actually got a headache. I didn't laugh at anything and nothing surprised me.

I imagine people will say my review is not helpful, simply because my rating is on the low side, but that is a personal preference. I mean, the subject matter seems fresh and I do think the writers did a great job. I'm just not a fan of the film. That's not to say you won't love it; it's just not for me.
