This episode is such a prime example of this show's writing being so much more detailed and hard-hitting than you would ever expect. I'm always struck with the beautiful symbolism behind oranges in this episode: oranges seem representative of love and family. In Jim's flashback, we see the Siete Gallos stealing the Jimenez family's oranges, and as they steal Jim's family from them as well.
Just after this, we get the touching line from Oluwande to Jim: "If you wanted, I could be family." And when the crew finds a petrified orange under the tree that was planted the day Jim was born: "Old tree still had some fruit to give, after all" - basically, Jim realizes that it's still possible for them to have a family and to feel love, despite everything they've lost and suffered. It always makes me emotional. <3.
