Review of Jaws

Jaws (1975)
5/10
Small town politics that doesn't hold the test of time
28 October 2023
Jaws is an iconic film that spawned a movie franchise and influenced countless water creature suspense films, even several theme park attractions. Jaws was celebrated for its cinematic style and score, but it also inadvertently endangered the life of sharks around the world after approximately 50% of sharks in western waters were hunted out of fear and hype because of this film.

I have not drank the Spielberg koolaid and do not believe all things Spielberg are exceptional pieces of cinematic history. The first half of Jaws is more about male egos and the ability to be an irritating politician, the typical overproduced storyline. However, the second half of the film outshines the first half, but it's not without its Richard Dreyfus irritating onscreen acting style. This is great for 1975 realism, but for 2023 this original film fails to entertain me.
