Beauty Inside (2018)
9/10
I know my reviews are long but I'm thoughtful!

First, the movie and the series are completely different. I suggest watching the series first and then later on watch the movie. The only thing they have in common is that a main character changes into someone else and even THAT is handled differently.

So about the series. Having watched the movie first, my expectations were completely different going in and admittedly I was put off by the changes simply because of that. I love love Seo Hyun Jin's acting so that was enough to keep me going. I'm so glad I did!

This show hit all the emotions. Even the uncomfortable ones. There were choices I didn't agree with but they were realistic, believable scenarios, albeit in a somewhat fantasy world. And no one made a bad choice without a consequence or an explanation, which K dramas are notorious for leaving out.

They even executed one of my least favorite tropes pretty well also. I usually hate the "we just happened to know /bump into each when we were little / in a past life" trope but it was nicely done here. (WWWSK is another show that I thought did this well)

The secondary couple really annoyed me by episode 10. The slow burn was too much... Errr not enough. And idk if it was the translation but I really didn't know what the boy was feeling until way too late in the show. I was happy in the end but the build up was Un. Com. For. Table.

TW to all my ladies who have lost their mothers :(

ML was dry and stiff as a board but for some reason I still liked him. I think it was the FLs attraction to him.

My favorite part of the entire series though aside from the romance was the friendships. The ML and his assistant friend. The FL and her 2 friends. They all had great chemistry and really looked out for each other.

Also. I was glad not to be weighed down by too much unnecessary corporate drama in the plot.
