Not as insightful as I thought it would be

The best part of this series is the fighting the dragon metaphor. Life is tough and we need to be willing to face the challenges in our lives with courage. I agree with the metaphor. There are many things I agree with in the series. For example, to some extent we need to embrace our suffering, so long as doing so leads in the direction that we desire. (Fighting the Dragons that guard the treasures we seek).

However, the majority of the series is just Dr. Peterson talking off the top of his head. He spends a lot of time saying that a big part of the adventure of life is having a family, and that there is something wrong with you if you don't agree with him.

To Dr. Peterson it is either you spend your time having a family or you spend your time on drugs.... It doesn't occur to him that there are other paths, other "adventures" to go on to make life meaningful and worthwhile.

I was expecting the series to be more useful. A guide on how to be successful in life. The series is not this though. The series is more of just a brief overview, or bullet points of what Dr. Peterson believes to be successful characteristics of a man(literally male, not man as in human).

I would have liked the series more if he actually went into detail on how to overcome adversity, HOW to fight the "Dragons", beyond just being virtuous, and willing to fight them at all. And especially if he went into detail on how to stay motivated after having defeated MANY dragons, but the dragons just don't stop, EVER. How does one not get tired of fighting off the "Dragons" over and over again. That would have been way more useful to me (someone who IS willing to fight the Dragons but is getting tired of the struggle of life).

But then again I feel that this series probably isn't aimed at people like me, it is aimed at 16 year old boys who are too afraid to even "pick up the sword".
