And this time Netflix is copying the Cloverfield movie concept...
9 December 2023
If you ask me, this movie is heavily inspired by the movie trilogy "Cloverfield". A bit to heavily actually. Because there are so many parallels, that you can say they practically stole the concept. Something that Netflix seems to do more and more.

Since I am a big fan of the Cloverfield-trilogy, I also liked this movie. And alike the first Cloverfield installment - which takes place in a doomsday bunker where total strangers meet up - this movie seems to take place in a house shere strangers meet up. And yes, also this movie has an open end.

Overall, this movie has pretty great actors. You however shouldn't expect too much of the movie sets. Since everything takes place in a house and its close surroundings - with no CGI or special effects to speak off - you won't be blown away by stunning visuals. Again, same as the first installment of the Cloverfield-trilogy.

As always with Netflix, we see a lot of elements that have to do with ESG, more specifically inclusion. But in my opinion, they go a bit too far this time. It seems that each new show or movie needs to make bolder statements, but a statement like this - and I quote exactly what is said in the most serious of circumstances - goes too far: "Trust should not be doled out easily, especially not to white people". Imagine a white person saying that about a black person in a Netflix movie, and you catch my point...

Although I do not like the obvious copying of other movie studio's concepts - i.e. The Cloverfield trilogy - and the just mentioned racial remark, I still give this movie a score of 7.3 / 10, resulting in 7 IMDb stars. I especially like the suspense and the unknown: exactly what I liked about the doomsday bunker movie from the Cloverfield trilogy... So?! Is this movie then also going to be a trilogy where we see more CGI and visual effects in the next installment whereby we see earth being taken over?
