6/10
An okay movie about a french resistance cell during WW2. But nothing more than okay...

This over half a century old movie is a fictional story that is based on experiences from french resistance members.

This movie receives some extreme high scores from both Rotten Tomatoes - which rates it at a score of 99 (!) - and IMDb with 8.1 stars. I personally however, could not see such an extreme high score in this movie. True, the story is an interesting one, whereby you will see several missions of the french resistance, but I found it pretty slowgoing at moments. I further had some difficulty in understanding some plot turns in the movie. If you decide to watch this movie, I am giving you already the hint that the main character looks pretty different when he isn't wearing glasses whilst having a beard. I personally lost what was going on when his appearance changed so drastically and only like 5 minutes later understood this was the main character of the movie...

Since this movie was made during the 1960's, there was still a lot of access to props from the second world war (WW2). Combine that with cities and villages that didn't yet change much since WW2, and the viewer is left with very convincing and credible scenery.

Overall, I unfortunately can not get further than a score of 6.3/10. Yes, I found it a decent watch, but nothing of the likes that many other people judge this movie to be. So I sincerely hope you like it way better than I.
