Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #38
20 December 2023
This storyline is actually a continuation of the previous episode "The Week Before Xmas" but I decided to only include this one in my Classic Xmas Episode Countdown.

Jethro and Mr. Drysdale are together for Xmas in the Clampett mansion and an excited Jethro excitedly runs into the parlor to find "Santy Clause has come" as all his favorite treats are under the tree - including a whole side of BBQ beef, "Enough vittles to last near all day!".

Miss Jane has driven the Clampetts to Hooterville for Xmas and is looking forward to caroling on the Cannonball. Mr. Drysdale fires her over the phone for not working on Xmas day.

Jed gifts Sam Drucker with a new bank (which is a simple lockbox) and when Mr. D gets wind of what Jed has done (he thinks they mean an actual brick-and-mortar bank) he passes out and dreams that Sam Drucker has replaced Mr. Drysdale as bank president.

Back at the Shady Rest, Granny discusses marriage with Billie-Jo and Bobbie-Jo, whom are out to get back at Jethro for lying and proposing to both. (It's the reason he declined to come to Hooterville). Steve and Betty-Jo arrive with the baby and Steve serenades Granny with an easy-listening inspirational Sixties song.

It ends with Mr. Drysdale driving to Hooterville with Elly's bear Fairchild accompanying him (dressed as a hippie), Granny making herself over in Shirley Temple mode 'cause Sam Drucker "likes 'em young", and the annual caroling singalong aboard the Cannonball. We actually get to see the cast aboard this time, unlike the previous Xmas episodes of PETTICOAT JUNCTION where they only showed nighttime shots of the decorated train (though those are here too).

Of all the BH Xmas episodes, this is probably the weakest. It was great to see the cast crossover from PJ, but this one is a little too much of a mishmash. 7/10.
