The Last Hunt
23 December 2023
After all those decades of crap of all kinds, Nicholas Cage, Francis Ford Coppola's nephew, seems to be back, and in great shape. Among all those craps, there were somewhere some good ones though. That said, this plot is obviously a tribute - at least for me who is a movie buff - to Richard Brook's THE LAST HUNT and - or - Jack Lee Thompson's THE WHITE BUFFALO, but Nick Cage is not Robert Taylor - THE LAST HUNT, and the plot a bit weaker too than Brook's masterpiece. Anyway, this film can easily be considered as a tremendous buffalo hunt movie; I don't think there were so many in western history. And a good western is so rare in those days. Such a kind of plot could have been made in the early seventies, during the gloomy, melancholical period of the movie industry. All this for nothing.... The scheme of the naive tenderfoot finding out the gritty, rough life in the wilderness, the lanscape, is very well done here.
