7/10
Solid sequel.

A decent sequel, the film makes nice use of it's colour and art direction, it's tame by modern standards but probably very exciting and scary for the 1950s, the acting from some is a bit hammy and fun, though it's also a dark tale of obsession and madness, there's some originality to it, the ending is a good one, it's a lovely restoration though obviously a low budget film the camera work is nice and Peter Cushing in particular is excellent as ever, the production design is very basic, you don't believe your really in a 19th century German village, the sets look like they are painted cardboard or something at times, the lighting is very Hammer, with green light and things that makes no sense but looks great, there's no Christopher Lee here, I did like the costumes, they looked lived in and dirty and real as did the makeup work. All in all not a bad sequel which at least took some risks and did something things differently. The tone and acting and some of the art design and dark gothic look continues to impress. The music is also pretty good.
