Review of Arest

Arest (2019)
9/10
A video monument to the victim (and the torturer) in the Communism
28 December 2023
I write this review after this movie haunted me for a couple of months to do so, and I mean it in the literal way!

The movie tells an easy story of terror during Communist Romania, where a system disposes of a victim, but it tells is from the very personal point of view of the cell in which the relationship between the victim and the torturer takes place.

I did stop multiple times to tell myself that this story cannot be true, and every time I found evidence that up to half a million people went part of the ways told by the movie.

It is incredible to see the mind-less, heart-less and absurd system of torture put on film, as it is depicted by very realistic characters, with a focus on achieving other minor motives, but keeping life going.

A must see film, with the warning that it won't be pretty, but such life was! And we hope not to make it again.
