5/10
Watchable, but only just
30 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This fits neatly into the 'midday movie' realm. The acting is wooden and the plot is full of ridiculous elements that wouldn't fly in the real world (like the main character, an author and wife to the sheriff, being given full, unfettered access to a crime scene), but it's watchable when you don't want to have to think too hard. It seems as though the director wanted to go for a 'realism' approach, with conversations coming across as everyday, some even bordering on the mundane, but the poor acting meant that this just made the film feel unpolished. There are no surprises here, and everything feels overly neat and formulaic, but sometimes that's not a bad thing when you just want to sit down to a movie in the middle of the day.
