Hmm...

Big fan of the comics. Thought they were a ton of fun and that that characters were fleshed out really well. Artwork and writing were great.

Edgar Wright's movie didn't quite reach the same heights but I still love the heck out of that movie. It's so freakin' fun and does come pretty close to the comics in terms of tone and characterization (mostly).

So imagine the look on my face when this episode stayed very accurate to that first volume until that ending... Very jarring.

I decided to watch a couple more episodes after this one to sort of get a better feel for what they're going for, (no spoilers don't worry) because this seemed like an episode that I couldn't properly talk about on its own. And I'm glad I did.

If you're just starting his series expecting a direct adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic run (like I was), I'd manage your expectations a bit. It's very different so far (I'm three episodes in). It took me about that long time to get in to, but I'm starting to dig it and I'll definitely finish the series now.

ANYWAY, I think the tone and animation here are very in-line with the comic, and it's good to have the voice team from the movie back as well. That was perfectly cast and this is so far as well. This does feel like the pilot episode that it is, but it has so far gotten better... I'll come back and edit this after the series is over.
