Review of Panic 9-1-1

Panic 9-1-1 (2012–2022)
8/10
Very tense calls, ok editing
2 January 2024
I'm watching the show in 2023, and I feel like I've seen it in the past at some point. It's one of those that you really have to endure the editing and reenactments because those parts kind of get shown over and over while you're listening to the actual 911 call. Some of those calls are so tense and you just are yelling at the screen- for instance when the 911 operator told the lady in the closet with her son to put the gun down while the police had not even arrived yet, I was screaming "what are you, crazy don't put that gun down that's insane!" I mean if I was in the closet with my son and the only thing that I could protect myself with was a gun I would not put the gun down until I heard the cops come in. I thought that was really out of line for the 911 operator when the police couldn't find her apartment. I have things to say for some of the other ones too but mostly I would say this is a very stressful show, listening to those people in such urgent situations. As far as the flashing that two out of seven reviews have mentioned, I personally didn't see it as flashing- there's no flashing lights where you would need to have a photo sensitivity warning; it's just switching between scenes in a repetitive and quick manner. At least that's how I perceived it, and I didn't even notice it until I read the other people's reviews. But In fairness I'm only on the second episode right now. The intensity of the show makes me think I probably won't continue to watch it. There's really not enough visual stimulation or interest so it's really a prolonged dramatization of what is normally a rather short call. The only criticisms I have are really when the 911 operators keep saying ma'am are you there ma'am are you there and the person is clearly screaming their heads off and being attacked unable to respond. I mean is that really a professional 911 person going ma'am are you there ma'am ma'am are you there. No, biatch I'm not there, I'm being attacked right now and can't chat at the moment. I saw a more in-depth story about the older gal who was alone at the isolated farmhouse who shot the intruder with a shotgun. And on this series it doesn't really go into that much detail because I remember thinking she knew the guy was drunk, she knew the guy thought he was at someone else's house but she never fired a warning shot. She didn't even wait for him to come upstairs, she went downstairs and waited for him to come through the window and shot him. I know that with the castle doctrine she was not held responsible. But some people will argue that that was self-defense and I'm going to disagree. She straight up went down the stairs to shoot him. I guess I'd have to put myself in her shoes to know how I would have handled it. For me the most difficult one so far was the two little girls on the lake. I mean never mind asking why somebody wasn't having their eye on a 4-year-old, but that next door neighbor grandmother was a savior. She should get some sort of special award in heaven. I couldn't believe that young athletic babysitter didn't go around the lake and try to save them herself. I was just so upset waiting to find out the outcome. This show is very stressful.
