I recently watched Nefarious (2023) on Prime. The storyline follows a man on death row, hours away from the electric chair. Before execution, a final psychological evaluation is required to determine the inmate's sanity. As the psychologist challenges his claims of possession, doubts arise, leading to unexpected twists.

This picture is codirected by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon, who also worked together on Unplanned) and stars Sean Patrick Flanery (Powder), Jordan Belfi (Entourage), Tom Ohmer (Criminal Minds) and Glenn Beck (Cheers).

The movie's writing exceeded my expectations, featuring solid dialogue, compelling circumstances, and a refreshing, smart conclusion. With two elite actors and a touch more horror effects, it could have become a cult classic. Despite Flanery's strong performance, Belfi falls short, but his final scene is well-executed. While lacking in horror elements, the film's final reveal/circumstance is excellent.

In conclusion, Nefarious offers a fantastic premise and clever twist, making it a must-see. However, the acting and horror elements cause it to fall short of becoming a cult classic. I'd score this a 6.5/10, recommending seeing it at least once.
