FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU. FOOL ME TWICE....

I agree with the last reviewer, everyone would be friends and live happily ever after if the lady in question only had one ear!

This is a terrific story, perhaps one of the best from the final season, before Hitch moved to hour long mysteries. Popular character actor Ernest Truex plays yet another wealthy old gent, this time purchasing an expensive black pearl for his fussy, fussy wife. Did we say fussy?

She wants a matching set and what she wants she gets.

Back Mr. Wilkins (Treux) goes to the jeweler, Laurent DuBois (played by Canadian actor Emile Genest), and requests a second black pearl --at any price.

Next Hitchcock problem; DuBois is a crook who cheated the original seller of the pearl, wise, old Captain McCabe, played to the max by none other than Oscar nominee John Ireland. Ireland was dynamic in this kind of a role, married to Joanne Dru, who appeared in many of his films.

Talk about a tangled web and what an outstanding ending. By far, Ireland steals the show. Incidentally, the 4000 dollar pearl today would be worth more than 40 thousand bucks!

The only question... why does the captain live the way he does? He obviously has security!

Expert direction on the part of Bernard Girard, long associated with Hitch. Sharon Farrell, in an early role, plays Lolly. Farrell is best known for her many appearances on HAWAII FIVE O. She passed in 2023. SEASON 7 EPISODE 29 remastered.
