These kids were touched inappropriately and used the existence of demons to block it out. It's a classic case of remembering something different to what it actually was because it is better to believe a demon infiltrated your space than a person that you loved or trusted. A lot of abuse victims do this so instead of playing into it the police should be checking the families hard drives! I guarantee that the family has something to hide but love the attention they are getting from the ghost hunting communities. I'm now just padding this out to make the character count so it gets accepted but everything else is facts.
