Call Me Tonight (1986 Video)
7/10
Absolute madness

I feel like the first 10 or so minutes of this half-hour anime film is kind of amazing. Its premise is a spin on a classic monster/transformation story, but here, the guy turns into some sort of creature if he gets... "excited." When he then falls in love with a young woman who's trying to help him with this unique condition, chaos naturally ensues.

It starts funny, creative, and silly, but I did feel like Call Me Tonight lost a little steam in its back half, even as it tries to keep upping itself with all the bizarre imagery it has to offer. There's still a good deal of fun to be had though for those who don't mind their anime getting strange and sleazy at the same time (I wouldn't call it restrained by any means, but it is also possible to imagine a world where the premise and certain scenes got pushed genuinely too far).
