"Kohlhiesels Töchter" is a comedy which is meant to be full of gags. And there are many moments in this movie which are still funny to this day thanks to the witty dialogue which is full of wordplay. Therefore the movie should probably be watched in German. Some of the humour is surprisingly bawdy.
However, the "ugly" sister is very badly treated by every other character (but especially by the suitors!) which is at times hard to watch. The overall message of the film is "If a woman takes care of her appearance and is pleasant, she will be treated nicely." The Happy End will probably seem a little too easy of a solution to most modern-day viewers.
