Every year I lose more and more respect for the Oscars. The best picture nominees usually have a couple movies I like. The rest are movies I hate or have absolute zero interest in watching. Can you guess which category this falls in?
I cannot fathom why Anatomy of a Fall was even made, let alone being nominated for best picture. This has to be one of the most mundane and uneventful courtroom dramas/mysteries I've ever watched. There is endless, barely interesting dialogue that made this feel more like work than entertainment. I think watching a real life court case would be more enjoyable.
Nothing about this movie feels cinematic or worth my time. I even looked into some of the deeper meanings. I can see why this might appeal to some. But that should be the cherry on top. If the story itself is bereft of intrigue, then I don't care about the deeper meaning.
The only thing at which this movie succeeds is making me wonder if French courts are really this ridiculous. I'm no expert, but it seems to be filled with things that would never fly in an objective court system. I can't tell if it's unrealistic or just how French courts are.
