Justice League: War (2014 Video)
7/10
Action-Packed Origin Story with Nuance
14 March 2024
A 2014 DC animated feature that immerses audiences in the action while telling the narrative of the Justice League's inception and showcasing an extraterrestrial invasion.

The movie doesn't squander time introducing characters in great detail. It launches straight into the extraterrestrial invasion, presenting nonstop action scenes that highlight the special skills of each hero. Even though the main characters-Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman-are well-known, the movie offers a novel viewpoint. We witness a cocky Green Lantern, a more cynical Batman, and a Cyborg who is having difficulty accepting his robotic additions. The oppressive king of Apokolips, Darkseid, is portrayed in the movie as a very frightening antagonist. He is more than just a one-dimensional brute; his acts are motivated by a feeling of studied strategy and overpowering strength. The film interjects humor as needed to prevent the mood from becoming overly depressing.

The movie gives viewers a peek into the personalities of each hero, but the action scenes take center stage. It might not go as deep as those seeking a closer examination of the motivations and backstories of the characters. Shazam, who was once Captain Marvel, is a prominent addition to the original cast instead of Aquaman. Even while Shazam brings some youthful energy, some viewers might not recognize the aquatic superhero. Though there are certain occasions where the quality significantly deteriorates, overall the animation is good.
