This is the fourth Chabrol movie i watch. I liked "L'enfer" the most. "Merci pour le chocolat" is my second favorite movie of his, up till now. The other two movies are "Juste avant la nuit" (6,8/10). And "La cérémonie" (6/10).
It's almost impossible to not like a movie with Isabelle Huppert. Up to a point, it doesn't even matter if the movie is good, mediocre or bad. If she plays, sign me up. Huppert aside, this is a good drama. If you are looking for a crime drama or a mystery drama, you will probably be disappointed. There are some mysteries here but they are just secondary aspects. I enjoyed this a lot, although not many things are happening, i mean, you can say even it's uneventful. But I was not expecting action scenes and car chases, in any case. This was interesting all the way and it never dragged. You can guess a thing or two but you will enjoy the ride, after all. Don't expect totally satisfying conclusions, loud conversations, intensity etc. This is too subtle and dry. I didn't love it, this is not an exciting movie neither a 9/10 or a 10/10. But i was not expecting something like that anyways.
