I wonder at a fact that, at that time, films were much more meaningful than today. This film addresses a very fundamental social question, are criminals born or made? The main protagonist believes that criminals are born criminals and that's why he keeps asking every child his father's name. And as fate would have it, his own son turns out to be a criminal when he was taken away from the social status of his parents. Through the character of Raj, we get to know how the society itself gives rise to criminals and then damn them for the same. The movie shows that when a criminal doesn't even want to remain a criminal, how his past and society haunts him and doesn't let him live in peace. What I also liked that inspite of all this, this movie doesn't justify crime. Even though Raj gives justification of him being a criminal, he never justufies his crime and is happy to pay the price for his deeds. Great performance by everyone. A must watch.
