Review of Horia

Horia (2023)
9/10
A much needed first for the Romanian cinema stage
21 April 2024
For Romanian cinema, this is a more than welcome premiere, enjoyable through its simple, youthful and sensitive insight.

The debut of quite talented director Ana Maria Comanescu and two young actors - Vladimir Teca and Angelina Pavel - enhances the playful, romantic and sometimes humourous nature of the film.

This is a well-known theme, that of the coming of age. Based on a simple script, the fresh and deep atmosphere of the film support the adventure that follows. I won't spoil it - just say it involves an old motorcycle, a boy and a girl, and some beautiful landscapes.

Both young actors are quite charismatic and know how to pace their rhythm throughout the film. The supporting characters are spot on and make their point in a very subtle way.

Do see this film, for its earnest and subtle look on youth and life. It's good for the soul.
