I'm not turk but a Cagatay Ulusoy fan because the guy is a great actor and hook you up with every role he plays. So when Kubra was announced I was intrigued by the story and also the directors, Tylan Brothers.
I went and checked Afsin Kum's book, "Kubra" and the story was really good. Since Kum himself is also a software engineer he knew about AI and then he added some cultural stuffs, some fiction and mixed them with religious. It showed how powerful tools can be used for good and bad according to the each person.
Here Gokhan Shahinoglu after a tragic incident during his mandatory military service finds asylum through religion and God. He needs answer to why he was the only survivor of that tragic event? Does it mean God wanted something from him and gave him another chance? And a man who is trying to find this answer gets messages that confuses him and for a man like Gokhan who already was searching for a sign this whole situation was a turning point. Everyone think the story is disrespecting the Islam or Muslims but in fact everything at the end becomes clear no God messaging Gokhan, but an Artificial intelligence is responsible for it. The story shows how something complicated like AI could manipulate ppl. What everyone would do with power given to them? Gokhan is a faithful man, he's kind, he wants to help everyone but he still thinj his duty in life us to do bigger and the ai has given this opportunity. The ending of the season came a little too late but it set up the tone for next season (I already knew the show had 2 seasons and they filmed all together) Gokhan still believes this is another way that God chose to talk to him to show him the road so this time he consciously uses si as his tool to expose the system.
Cagatay Ulusoy played Gokhan differently than his other roles and I didn't expect less from him, it was the first project from the Tylan brothers that I have watched and I liked it. The tone, the lighting, the framing, the sounding worked well together. Another cast member who shone was Ahsen who plays Gokhan's sister.
So I can't wait for season 2.
