Despite what anyone has to say about anything that Kate Winslet appears in, she continues to be a tour de force on screen with any part she takes on, including the starring role in "The Regime". Her strange idiosyncrasies and strong satirical (yet eerily familiar and realistic) performance is the glue that holds the show together. I enjoyed many of the supporting performances and am a huge fan of alternate history (geo-political or otherwise) and the first half holds out some amazing setups that just do not pay off as the series closes. The curtain unfolds (rather, unravels) slow enough to not reveal the true nature of the situation of the fictional dictatorship to remain invested, but up into a rather thrilling end of the penultimate episode, the last hour is a real pull of the tablecloth that wasn't graceful enough to leave me still on top of the table afterwards. I was left confused and severely under-whelmed and at the end when I should've cared the most, I was left pretty much completely uninvested. A lot of side-plots could have been explored more and more history needs to be told to really enjoy the premise...I would gladly watch a prequel of the prior struggles up to the overturn of power up to the story we are presented - but I guess I'll just make my own inferences, which may be the intention anyway. I would call it an Emmy/Golden Globe contender for best lead actress for Winslet, but not much else. 6/10.
