Tyrone Power was a very underrated actor. His role in the Razor's Edge was Oscar-Worthy, but he never won that award. In this film, he is a bit more subdued, and shackled with a romantic lead who is not up to speed with Power's talent.
It is a funny thing about WW2 films made after WW2; half or more of them just cannot capture the atmosphere of WW 2 films made during the war. This one comes close, but ultimately, you get the feel you are in the 1950s looking backward. That quiet desperation that accompanied many of the WW2 films of the 40s is missing. Still entertaining becasue Power is strong enough to carry the film by himself.
