"Magpie Funeral" is a gem of a movie. It's a thought-provoking meditation on death, healing, and following your dream. Darren Burrows is a revelation as Sy. Seeing him in this film made me wonder why he's been so quiet in the years between "Northern Exposure" and the present. He inhabits the screen with a heart and vulnerability that I'm not seeing in many actors these days. It's a welcome return.
Actually, all of the actors are at the top of their games. They may not be household names yet, but there's no reason they couldn't be. It's beautifully acted throughout.
The writing, directing, and cinematography are also top-notch. Greg Green has a sure and steady hand on the rudder of this film from start to finish. It's a beautiful little movie.
