After preventing his friend Jim from becoming a suicide because he cannot see his sweetheart, Clara Williams, on account of her father's objections. Freddy tells him he will fix up matters for him. He has Jim write a note to his girl telling her to be ready to elope that night, but father intercepts the message, reads it, but says nothing. At the appointed time, Freddy sends Jim for the minister. At the same time two thieves prepare to enter the Williams home. Mr. Williams happens to see one of the crooks under the window, and imagining the fellow to be Freddy come to elope with his daughter, steals down, throws a blanket over the crook's head and locks him in a shed. Meantime, the constable meets Freddy and tells him of a large reward offered for two crooks who are at large. Freddy as planned, waits under the parlor window for Clara, and the thief inside passes out a bag of silver to him in the darkness. But the deception is discovered and a fight follows during which Mr. Williams is aroused and aids Freddy to capture the crook just as the constable arrives. Freddy gets the reward, then manages to lock Williams in a room, while Clara and Jim beat it to the minister's and are married. On seeing the marriage certificate Mr. Williams gives in and bestows his blessing.
