Mental hospitals in Oklahoma are populated with people from a variety of backgrounds, who are treated for a variety of psychiatric issues. Patient treatments may include counseling, insulin shock, hydro therapy, electro-shock therapy, occupational therapy and/or sedative packs. Not all patients will get well, but with proper treatment in a supportive environment - primarily one where the patient feels safe and calm - those with treatable issues will hopefully leave the hospital one day a healthy, productive individual. Patients are admitted to the hospitals by one of three means: voluntary self-admission, certified doctor order, or the most common method of court order. The case of Fred Clanton falls into that latter category. Ultimately diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, Fred has a persecution complex, he even believing that those closest to him - including his wife Betty - are out to get him. Fred's case is treatable, so after therapy and series of measures to reintegrate Fred into regular life and life outside the hospital, Fred, with the help of Betty and other loved ones around him, will one day hopefully be one of those who will leave the hospital a cured man.
