Diego, a Chicano high school student, has opportunity right in front of him, yet he is disinterested in learning about the people who fought for the existence of the very class he sits in. He is approached by his teacher, Professor Moreno, who summons him to his office hours. Unbeknownst to Diego he is about to be transported through time to experience all the hardships Mexican Americans endured and take part in the rise of the Chicano Movement. As he travels from decade to decade he begins to understand how drastically different his experience would be if Chicanos hadn't risen up to push for change. Diego is forced to sit in the back of the theater, as white audience members exhibit discomfort at the mere thought of Diego joining their section in the theater. Fleeing just in time to avoid being caught by security, Diego lands himself in another uncomfortable situation, as he sits at a dinner table with his White school crush, Sarah, and her family. Tensions rise quickly as the subject of pregnancy is broached and Sarah's father is unable to contain his anger. Luckily for Diego he transports one last time and finds himself in a familiar setting, a classroom. However, it is not a Chicano Studies class and there is no Professor Moreno. In fact, there are no Mexican teachers at all. Students begin to walk out and Diego realizes what he must do. It's his turn to make change.
