Social comedy with a musical bonus
malcolmgsw4 December 2009
this film is currently available to view at the BFI Mediatheque on the South Bank as part of their British Cinema of the 1930s season. There are in total 63 features available to view. This is quite an interesting musical comedy as the basic story is about Howard being elected as a local councillor to put through a slum clearance scheme to ensure that every home has a bathroom. He is though allowed a lot of time to develop his comic routines aided by that marvelous "silly ass" Claude Hulbert. The big plus for this film is that there are two musical numbers by the great British crooner Al Bowlly.he really has a great voice and charisma. It is just a great pity that he made so few films. However at least we are now able to view this and a great many other British feature films from the 1930s now on view at the South Bank
