...of Swedish comedy, Swedish actors, and Swedish movies overall. I can't stand Swinema. I watched this movie, not knowing what to expect, and, well, "Bragehus" didn't exactly give me any new hope for Swedish cinema. In fact, it was a painfully unfunny romp from start to finish. It's about as funny as watching your grandparents eat sandwiches while breathing through their noses. Simply put, this movie is as stiff and humourless as anyone from Stockholm. No offense.
Adolf Jahr... what can I say? I mean, I can see which of his lines and actions are supposed to be funny, but they're not. He's just not funny. Watching him is like watching bad stand up. You sit there, feeling ashamed of watching, feeling sorry for this poor guy, who seems so totally oblivious to how unfunny he is. While "Bragehus" won't provide a laugh a minute, you'll probably gasp in pain a couple of times, and there'll be awkward silences galore. If you're lucky, you might even get a headache! I'm so glad I fell asleep before it ended.
The comedy aspect aside, the film-making is as amateurish as can be expected. It saddens me that in 70 years, the quality of Swinema not only hasn't got better, it has become gradually worse. The 30's acting is stiff and awful, with a badly dated script that leaves a sour taste in your mouth. "Spöket" proves that just because a movie is old doesn't make it good. It also proves that my unlimited hate for Swedish movies is justified. Again, and again, Swedish directors prove that our country should stay out of the movie business. Forever.(r#22)
