Pleasant comedy of manners as down-to-earth George Carney and his wife deal with his daughter's public school snobbery and some upper-class swindlers. Carney and Vivienne Chatterton play it with Manchester accents that you could shatter glass with. Dinah Sheridan, as their snobbish daughter, is very obnoxious for the first half of the movie, but Carney's good-natured hard-headedness triumphs in the end.
This is pretty much the tag end of the Manchester school of dramaturgy, which produced some good works like HINDLE WAKES and HOBSON'S CHOICE. Characters in this one seem to be reduced to stereotypes by this stage, but Carney is an accomplished enough actor to keep things moving.
