A panorama saga of Swedish Lapland.
horn-522 June 2006
Released in the U.S. in 1938 as "En Saga", at the Continental Theatre in NYC with Swedish dialogue and English titles. It is a story of Lap herders who rescue a baby from a herd of wolves, name her Laija (played by Aino Taube as an adult)and their struggles and trials over the years. The pictorial beauty of the country is complimented by action shots of wolves attacking the herder's reindeer and sweeping shots of the reindeer herds moving across the tundra.

Most U.S. reviewers praised the film, and Film Daily called it among the best of the foreign importations up to that time, adding that director George Schneevoight caught the rugged beauty of the country.
