A Real Oddity
malcolmgsw18 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This film is supposedly set in a west country fishing village, but you would be hard pressed to know that from the variety of accents.Robert Newton has mummerset,Wilfred Lawson his usual,Marie Tempest and Patrick Barr from London and Belle Crystal from Lancashire.not to mention Coral Browne and her strine. There are squabbles over women with Marie Tempest presiding over the scene serenly. When she dies she leaves her money to Robert Newton who is a self declared communist. He decides to use the money from the bequest, four thousand pounds, for a communal shelter.Thats it,nothing more.I am surprised that this got past the censor bearing in mind that it has a very left wing theme. It is also rather surprising that it was ever shown since you wonder who on earth it would appeal to .So far as i am aware it has not been shown on TV.A very odd film.
