Too Similar Too The Good Companions
malcolmgsw26 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film almost appears to be a copy of the good Companions.Gracie is part of a group of entertainers who break away from the crooked company manager. At first their luck is bad.this changes when she befriends the lost dog of a famous pianist. She gets a reward of £100 from him,she launches the company on a tour and the pianist falls in love with the ingénue of the company. However their crooked ex boss tries to sabotage the company but Gracie and friend s win out and she marries Roger Livesey. There are so many elements of the good Companions present in this film. The production is not as good as Ealings. It was filmed at Pinewood and so many of the exteriors are too obviously staged on a sound stage. there are some good numbers, more than at Ealing. there is a very good supporting cast including Monsewer Eddie Gray of the Crazy Gang, looking almost unrecognisably young. For some reason this film has not ,so far as i am aware been shown on English TV,and has not been released on video.Difficult to understand why.
